Book four in the Oliver & Jack series is moving along nicely.
Most recently, Bookfly Design and I finalized the cover, which I’m including for you now, so you can see what I see, which is Bookfly’s amazing attention to detail, and a terrific hand at bringing the tone and feel of the book to visual light.
When Bookfly sends me the first draft of any cover, he always tells me what he’s doing and why, which makes me feel as though he truly understands what I’m writing about.
This time around, he pointed out that this cover is “a bit cheerier than Axminster,” but not too cheery as he didn’t want to overdo. He chose subdued warm colors, and used flowers as the side ornament because, much to my own surprise, I kept describing flowers all the way through the book. My favorite touches are the ragged-edged map and the fact that the rim of the ornament around the title is taken from an antique compass. All of which makes me happier than a pig in mud.
