Camp NaNoWriMo is going quite well, as I’m writing every day and getting my words in. The new story is coming along its merry way, since I determined that this time, I would outline by hand, so as to have my notes always with me, and I would be able to spread them out on the desk before me as I typed. Scrivener is a great tool, and I dearly love those virtual 3 x 5 cards like nobody’s business, but the visceral act of writing out the outline makes a better tool for me to get my story to come to life.
And while I’ve not been posting my numbers every day, I’ve been writing around 2,000 per day. Here’s the current count:
Word Count 4/13/2015 – 2,101
Total for April – 25,598
I found the following fun video some time ago, probably while goofing off on Tumblr, and right away, it reminded me of my characters, Oliver and Jack. Jack is represented by the high-spirited young black man (played by the sweet faced Doug Locke), and Oliver is represented by the grumpy ginger boy. Later, as the characters have grown older, this remains true, the black guy visits his friend and brings beer and tries to make the atmosphere relaxed by putting his feet on the bed, while the grumpy white guy kicks his feet off, refusing to have any fun. Later, there is a tender moment and memories shared before grumpy white guy’s wife gets home.
The only thing about this vid that bothers me is the nasal cannula that white guy wears. I’m thinking (hoping) he’s just got pneumonia or needs the oxygen because he’s recovering from some surgery rather than him having COPD or something more dire, and it probably is, for if you have COPD, you don’t get tucked back into bed your wife, but if you have pneumonia or recent surgery, you might do.
The lyrics seem to come from Jack, as he tries to convince Oliver of all of the fun and good times that they could be sharing, if only Oliver will get with the program!
Star gazers in bloom
How I feel about you
I felt my heart beat, boom
Reminiscing bout you
Oh You sparked that fuse
And you blew me away
Never wanted to fade
But Now my heart’s in two
Since you went away
I only want you to stay
CHORUS:
This could be us but you playin’
I need a parachute
Cause I keep falling for you
I gave my heart too soon
Now I’m black and blue
You take me to the moon
When you’d kiss me that way
Had me going insane
But now I’m chasing fumes
Since you went away
I only want you to stay
CHORUS:
This could be us but you playin’
